MusiCounts Receives $2M From The Slaight Foundation

The Slaight Family Foundation has made a $2 million, five-year commitment to the national music education charity MusiCounts, announced at the 2023 Juno Awards Gala dinner in Edmonton on March 11th . The investment will support diverse music education programs in schools across Canada through the new MusiCounts Slaight Family Foundation Innovation Fund.

On December 20th, 2022 The Globe and Mail named Gary Slaight "Canadian Arts Philanthropist of the Year" in an article feting him and 12 other "Canadian cultural icons who made the arts better in 2022". Citing the Foundation's support of both the theatre and music communities, the Globe suggested that while "he can’t sing and he’s not known for soliloquies...Gary Slaight’s performance in 2022 deserves some kind of ovation.

The Weeknd Receives The Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award

Over the past few years, Abel “The Weeknd’ Tesfaye has donated over $8.3 million dollars to important causes and has used his massive platform to speak out and take action on pressing social issues. Canadian Music Week has announced that Tesfaye has received the 2022 CMW Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award in recognition of his longstanding commitment to charitable initiatives.
