Gary and Donna Slaight receive War Child Canada's Philanthropy Award
War Child Canada's gala event, The World That's Possible, was held on Monday, December 5th, 2022 at the Royal Ontario Museum to raise funds in support of the millions of children and families impacted by war and violence. Gary and Donna Slaight were presented with the organization's inaugural Philanthropy Award in recognition of their long-standing work on behalf of War Child Canada.
Introducing the Slaights, Dr. Samantha Nutt, Founder & President of War Child Canada spoke of how the couple have been enormous supporters of the organization, describing how they have provided "critical funds to ensure that children can go to school, that the rights of women and children are protected, and that families can provide for themselves and lift themselves out of poverty." She continued: "To say that we could not be doing this work without their conscientious and consistent investment would be an understatement – thanks to their support, & that of The Slaight Family Foundation, who have together donated over $3,750,000 to War Child Canada over the past 15+ years, we have been able to expand our programs, maintain our operations in places out of the news, and leverage their contributions through matched funding initiatives to reach many more war-affected communities."
Hosted by Entertainment Tonight Canada's Sangita Patel, the gala featured performances by Metric, Chantal Kreviazuk, Colin Mochrie and Debra McGrath, JP Saxe, Josh Radnor, Arthur Simeon, and Em Beihold, gourmet international cuisine prepared by Chef Mark McEwan of The McEwan Group and Head Judge of Top Chef Canada, and a live and silent auction with Layne The Auctionista. This year's honourary gala chairs include War Child ambassadors Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski, with Sylvia Mantella and Wes Hall.
